Nourishing You by Caralee Fontenele

Caralee isn’t a professional chef, she’s a family lawyer and mum of three. She knows first-hand the demands of balancing family and working life. However, Caralee left school at the age of 16 with no idea of what to do next. She believes it’s never too late to make changes and reset your life direction. Now, Caralee’s purpose is to empower women to nourish their minds and bodies. Of course, the best place to start is with flavoursome, simple and fast meals.

Nourishing You is a collection of more than 100 delicious recipes inspired by Caralee’s love of real food. Caralee’s food philosophy is to eat less processed food, more foods from nature and simple cooking. I was inspired by the vibrant photography of gluten, dairy and refined sugar-free recipes.

However, ahead of the recipes, Caralee discusses how to nourish ourselves in other ways. Part Two is particularly useful, devoted to making nourishing food an easy and stress free part of our daily lives.

Caralee’s recipes highlight how simple menu planning and food preparation can be, including takeaway alternatives, bowls, salads, snacks and soups. My favourite chapter was Doing Breakfast Differently, featuring a vegetable loaded breakfast bake, zucchini bread and capsicum eggs with tomato salsa.

Caralee Fontenele is the author of two other recipe books, Real Food Everyday and Real Food Pledge. She was born and raised in Northland, New Zealand and now lives on the Gold Coast in Australia. Follow Caralee online.
