More than a cookbook, Coastal is a celebration of living coastally, and will be an inspiration for anyone wanting to give up the city life.
Deborah ‘escaped’ to the Coromandel in 2003 after a hectic life in London as a commercial artist. Now she is living the dream and living much more simply – building her own home, art and craft projects, having a vegetable garden, collecting seafood, and enjoying the seasonal cycle and flavour of fresh food from the ocean and garden.
Divided into seasons, Coastal is a true celebration of living seasonally. It shows how they built their dream home, information about making your own skincare products, keeping hens, creating a pond, enjoying craft projects, loads of great recipes and much, much more! Stand out recipes include: Seared Kingfish, Strawberry and Rhubarb Jam, Pork, Orange and Florence Fennel Salad, Pear, Feta and Beetroot Salad and Snapper Fish Cakes.
Coastal is a beautifully presented book, that celebrates the best of the coastal New Zealand lifestyle. It is a treasure of a book, and I’m sure will inspire others to live the ‘good life’ and give this sort of lifestyle ‘a go.’ It’s a delightful read, and full of lovely surprises.
