I loved The Wife Between Us, so I picked up this duo’s new thriller with great anticipation. The story centres around Shay Miller, who is not doing so well in life. She has feelings for her flatmate, but his girlfriend has recently moved in, and to make matters worse, she is about to lose her job and her apartment. But then she witnesses something shocking – a young woman about her age in the subway who throws herself in the path of an ongoing train.
Traumatised by what she has witnessed, Shay struggles to even go to the subway anymore and is in danger of spiralling down to new lows. But then she meets the glamorous Moore sisters, Cassandra and Jane, and they miraculously draw her into their privileged circle, even finding her a new apartment and employment. Things are on the up again. But the Moore sisters are keepers of the most shocking secrets, and Shay has no idea that everything will come to a deadly confrontation and much of her new good fortune has been based on a pyramid of lies.
While it took a little longer to get into this book than The Wife Between Us – there are many points of view from a large cast of characters – it was well worth persevering, as the story is a real cracker when you find out the truth. It’s a very well-plotted book with a satisfying, well-constructed ending. I can’t wait to see what these talented authors dream up next!
