The Very Hungry Caterpillar: A pull-out pop-up book, by Eric Carle

Many, if not all, will remember this book from their childhood. You know, it’s the one with the hole all the way through the book… it’s like a caterpillar ate a hole in the book, all the way through! Can you believe it? A hole through the whole book!

Ok, maybe it was just my childhood, but it was a great book and I still have a copy. But for this new generation of youngsters, with their interwebs and social appies, they need something fresh.

Ok, so you don’t get the hole through the book, but there are still plenty of holes. Plot holes aside, I mean the caterpillar is still hungry at the end of the book. There is no resolution here, however if you can get past that issue, this new adaptation of the classic kids book is pretty flash nonetheless. More than just a pop-up book, it’s now also a pull-out book. Flash as.

I read this one to my youngest lad, it was very well received. Sure, at 4 months old he thinks everything is tops or isn’t. Hard to really nail down his opinion to be completely honest. One note, it was a bit tricky to hold him and the book. It pull outs to almost two feet wide so make sure you take that into account before you start read.

A wee bit of nostalgia for the reader, plus something new for the listener as well. Kids these days need new things to keep them focused. I’m quite the traditionalist, but I was quite happy with how this particular hungry caterpillar was received by the little guy.
