The laugh-out-loud voice behind Andy Griffiths bestselling books comes to New Zealand

From 20 July to the 3rd of August acclaimed narrator Stig Wemyss, an Audiobook rockstar, will be performing across the South and North Islands for Bolinda audio and BorrowBox with his wildly entertaining, cleverly irreverent and laugh-out-loud show - Stig Live @ the Library.

“Stig is very, very engaging. Has the whole crowd eating out of his hand.

It’s a very energised performance.” Jo Hunt, Librarian, Ōpōtiki District Library.

Stig’s incredible and hilarious interpretations of some of the best books Australia has to offer include titles from high-profile authors such as Andy Griffiths, Tim Winton and Paul Jennings.

Stig is a well-known Australian actor who has appeared in numerous TV shows, feature films and live theatre productions over many years. However, he has become best-known for his work narrating audiobooks and for being ‘the voice of Andy G’; sometimes even being confused with Andy himself.

Stig’s vast experience brings a unique and dynamic energy to performances making them both fun and memorable for children and adults alike. Over the last six years Stig has been making live appearances in schools and libraries across Australia, New Zealand and the UK. His one man show, Stig Live @ the Library, is aimed specifically at primary school-aged children between the ages of 7 and 12 years old, however performances have a habit of capturing the full attention of staff and even older children. The shows focus on fostering reading and literature through a grassroots approach, while also aiming to entertain, spark joy and stimulate imagination in the minds of the young listeners. As well as being hugely entertaining, the shows are informative and help build awareness of the benefits of audiobooks.

Audiobooks are proven to change the way we listen, read and learn, improving the literacy of young readers, including increasing reading accuracy by 52%, increasing reading speed, expanding vocabulary and improving fluency, teaching pronunciation, improving comprehension by 76% and increasing test scores by 21% when engaged in multi-modal learning. Listening is the first language skill that we acquire and 85% of what we learn, we learn by listening.
