The Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee Book by Jerry Seinfeld

Jerry Seinfeld is a household name, and anything that he puts his hand to seems to be considered first class. The sold-out stand-up tours, the bestselling books, the incredible sitcom that retains records all these years after airing, and now a wonderfully funny and touching book of the YouTube series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. There seems to be nothing in the media industry that Seinfeld hasn’t succeeded in.

Seinfeld’s love for classic and unique cars is legendary, perhaps second only to the plethora of them at ex-Late Night Talk host Jay Leno. The series of the book has raked up 84 episodes over 11 seasons and features some of the most well-known comedians of the era. Everyone from Steve Martin to Eddie Murphy (also pictured on the cover), even Obama makes a surprise feature with his own brand of witticism, have made an appearance with cars especially chosen by Seinfeld to match a perception or a connection with the comedian of note.

This book is the archive of the series. The Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee Book manages to take the series to a whole new level, extracting wonderfully humorous tidbits and anecdotes from some of the finest storytellers around.

Separated into sections that focus on a particular area of life, such as love, performance, fame and so on, the stories from the comedians are poignant in their honesty and, at the same time, brutally funny.

Jerry Seinfeld lets the comedians speak for themselves, giving their replies to questions verbatim and allowing the annoying filter of editing to not impede on their phrasing and explorations. Perhaps one of the highlights of the book is this rawness that comes through, the unedited truth behind their words.

Without a doubt, this has something for everyone. Wisdom, lessons, considered thoughts, and off-the-cuff commentary on life and love. And the best part about it is Seinfeld’s ability to let others speak without the need to push an agenda or to create something that isn’t there.

Reading this in bites will give the reader the opportunity to draw all kinds of ideas and considerations to the world around it. It is a wonderful coffee table book with beautiful pictures of the cars and the comedians that are in them. Plus the content will leave you enthralled for hours.

A top read, well worth a peruse in bite-sized piece, or - more likely - whiling away hour after hour.
