This book is timely for anyone overwhelmed by modern living. Even if you don’t have a problem with spending too much time on digital devices, the notion that constantly multitasking is a good thing has been proven to be anything but. It erodes our ability to focus and concentrate, leading to burnout and anxiety. Thankfully, this book provides lots of practical solutions.

The book covers four main parts. The first breaks down why the modern world is so bad for our brains, what he calls the ‘distraction epidemic’ and how our brains are overloaded with dopamine and this leads to mental health problems. It is this environment for stress that primes us for addiction problems.

The second section goes specifically into some risk areas, which may or may not apply to people: social media overload, gambling, gaming, online dating and pornography.

The third section is all about solutions, covering reclaiming your brain and how to do so, sleep, recharging, productivity and focusing properly again.

The fourth section will be of interest to all families, as it looks at these problems for our children and teenagers.

Highly recommended.
