All Kunekune wants is to be able to hang out inside with his family. The cat and dog can, so why not a pig? From attending to his personal hygiene to donning a clever disguise, there is nothing Kunekune won't do to take his place inside where he belongs.

Author Amy Harrop has created a cute story about a little kunekune hoping to spend time close to his family. It's a simple, sweet story full of humour, making it a delightful book to read aloud to little ones. There's lots of lovely language to introduce younger readers to, with onomatopoeia, adjectives, alliteration, and adverbs, alongside unknown words to expand vocabulary.

Illustrator Ross Hamilton uses muted colours to bring kunekune's world to life. Kunekune is cute and full of expression and Hamilton adds pops of humour throughout. The watercolour artwork is surprisingly detailed and there's lots to pick up from the illustrations (spot the Rita Angus homage).

The ending is fun and the story offered up lots of great opportunities for questions from older readers to younger to really drive up their comprehension and critical thinking.

You Can't Come in, Kunekune is a fun little story about a little pig just looking to be loved.
