The Station by Bruce Foster

This handsome hardback is a beautiful, fascinating tribute to Wellington Railway Station, arguably the capital’s grandest building.
It opened in 1937 and was seen as one of New Zealand’s greatest aesthetic, architectural, and structural buildings, often called the ‘Temple of Transport’. Bruce Foster’s photographs, taken over 18 months, along with archive images, plus photographs by Ans Westra, pay tribute to Wellington’s grandest building. Wellington writer Redmer Yska’s essay highlights The Station’s history, and there are poems by Sam Hunt and Michael Jackson.
The photographs bring to life a station I have walked through many times, capturing this striking building and all the life that flows through it every day. Businesspeople, students, buskers, shoppers, young families and children - every day, this building teems with life!
The Station is a stunning coffee-table book and a lovely tribute to this grand building.
