Winter is the perfect time of the year for pulling out the slow cooker and creating warming meals to savour on cool nights. The Healthy Slow Cooker has over 100 recipes with Sunday Suppers, Weekday Dinners, Set and Forget Meal, Soups, Curries and Saturday Night Specials. There a numerous vegan and vegetarian options.


Looking through this handsome book, the stand outs for me are the following recipes: Caribbean pumpkin, chicken and corn casserole; Harira; Chicken shawarma; Turmeric beef stew; Lemongrass Chicken and Potato and green bean sambal. The set and forget meals look particularly appealing: Mexican three-bean and tomato burritos; Chicken, apricot and pumpkin stew; Fragrant lamb and orzo casserole and Poached salmon with verjuice, potatoes, chilli and herbs.


The full-page colour photography is very appealing, and while there is not a photo for every recipe, most recipes are accompanied by a colour image.


The recipe instructions are straightforward and not too complicated. I think this is a cookbook that any home cook will enjoy using.
