The Ex by Nicola Moriarty

Updated: Jul 11, 2019

Nicola Moriarty is one of three Moriarty sisters who write novels. So I like to think they are like modern day Bronte sisters. Of course, Liane Moriarty is the most well-known with Big Little Lies being made into a TV series. But Jaclyn Moriarty, another sister, writes novels also, her latest being Gravity is the Thing. Nicola is the youngest sister and she has written three novels, her latest being The Ex.

Georgia is a caring nurse with a satisfying career, but she hasn’t had been lucky in love. But that all changes when she gets stood up on a tinder date. Instead of the man she was waiting for in a bar, she ends up meeting Luke, and she knows he is The One. They are instant soul mates, and he makes her feel loved and safe. He’s good looking, considerate and she feels comfortable sharing her innermost secrets with him, and it’s not long before he moves in with her.

You could be forgiven for thinking this is a romance novel, but it’s actually a thriller that gets increasingly edgy. There is a big problem in their romance, and that is Luke’s ex-girlfriend. Cadence is having trouble letting go, and it’s not long before abusive text messages start coming through, and horrible notes are left on Georgia’s car, and Georgia starts to feel very afraid as it appears that Cadence is stalking her with malicious intent. But everything changes when Georgia goes to confront Cadence – and that’s when everything in the book punches to the next level, and there is a huge twist that you won’t see coming!

Anyone who enjoys a page-turning story that gets more and more thrilling will enjoy this wonderful book. I can see this would make a fabulous movie also! It’s got great characters and a cleverly constructed plotline.
