The production quality of this stunning hardback is superb, with its pink endpapers, ribbon and pink-tipped pages. The contents are a baker's delight with everything a ‘sweet’ heart could desire, from fruity to sticky, from tangy to creamy, from nutty to spicy. It’s also got the best salty caramel sauce that you can keep in your fridge. The ‘Bake-tionary’ at the back is hugely helpful with loads of tips.

Standouts in our home were:

  • Roasted strawberry and sesame Paris-Brest: a surprising mix of flavours that is different and unforgettable.

  • Raspberry jelly lamingtons. A little bit nostalgic, with the coconut being a star.

  • Malted devil’s food cake: the author describes this cake as being worthy of the BFE. That’s Big Fork Energy that happens when ‘something is so good to eat – it’s an unrelenting and joyful forking from plate to mouth.’  She is right!

  • Fluffy chocolate mousse – very moreish!

  • Lime and yoghurt bundt – easy to make and a hit in our home.

  • Flourless almond & mandarin cakes – an updated version of a classic.

  • Chocolate hot cross buns – homemade is so much better than store-bought!

Sweet Heart is a baker’s delight!
