Somebody Always Comes Looking by Paul Cleave

Bestselling author Lee Child says Paul Cleave is an automatic must-read, and Cleave’s latest thriller would be a good one to start with if you haven’t read his others, as it’s his classic thriller/verging on horror-style.

Luca and Katie met on a beach in Malaysia, and their attraction is immediate. It turns out they live not far from each other in Christchurch. Things are heating up between them until a serial killer has them in his sights, but his attempt on their lives is foiled when they gain the upper hand instead. Looking through his phone reveals a man with many victims in his wake. Repulsed and panicked, they trek into the jungle to leave the killer to the elements, but a large snake complicates their chance of his body not being found.

To make things even more complicated, a bag of more than a million in cash is found in the killer’s room, putting them in even more danger – they know that with this amount of money, people will come looking, especially when they decide to spend some of the money. After all, this amount is life-changing.

Somebody Always Comes Looking is action-packed and unrelenting. It’s pure escapism, albeit with a heavy dose of violence, but with a plot that will keep you turning the pages.
