RV There Yet? by Don and Marilyn Jessen

To the RV community of New Zealand, which is a similar size to the population of its ninth largest city, Napier, the Jessen name is a familiar one. Don’s personal history has been entwined with recreational vehicles since his early life.

He was born into the New Zealand dynasty created by his father Tek Jessen, the founder of Liteweight Caravans, which grew from humble beginnings in 1948 to be the country’s largest caravan builder.

By the time he was a teenager, Don was towing caravans between dealerships, while also enjoying the benefits of a recreational life on wheels in his spare time. By the time he was 24 he was on the board of directors of the company and has continued to be immersed in the lifestyle through the intervening years.

He and his wife Marilyn (an author in her own right) have owned 13 RVs. They continue to buy, sell, remodel and promote the lifestyle; and are regular fixtures at RV shows where they can be seen showcasing their personal vehicles and selling their numerous books.

In this, Don’s sixth book, he offers a comprehensive guide to owning and using a recreational vehicle in New Zealand. He covers off the need-to-knows from choosing and setting up and RV, to the do’s and don’ts of road trips and camping.

The book is well laid out, solid, functional and attractive, and it’s sure to find favour with anyone invested in the lifestyle.

If you’re keen to get tips on packing and preparing for a home on the road, this should be your first investment.
