I highly recommend checking out the Council's website alongside the book. It is packed full of resources and advice as adventuring with children adds a whole new safety dimension to a trip.
The book brings to life the Council's Plan My Walk app and website, weaving in the NZ Land Safety Code. Candler does a fantastic job of weaving this knowledge into a story in an authentic and meaningful way. The book is engaging and there's a story, rather than a sermon, about keeping safe outdoors.
There is a set of activities at the end of the book, designed to get younger readers to think deeply while also encouraging them to have adventures.
Illustrator Gavin Mouldey brings New Zealand's native flora and fauna to life in richly coloured and detailed artwork. There's lots of hidden details that will delight readers.
