Love Your Career From the Start by Caroline Sandford

It can be daunting for young people to consider what work they might like to do. Do they go to university or find a trade? How do they figure out what career might suit them? What subjects are best to study? What if they end up choosing a job they don’t like, or the work they want to do doesn’t exist in the future? Thankfully, Caroline Sandford is an expert in this area, and she has written a practical, easy-to-use book that is perfect for 15-25-year-olds, that will help them make good decisions.

With numerous easy exercises, Love Your Career From the Start explores four key stages for making decisions about your working life. The exercises help young people understand who they are and who they want to become. The book explores the different options. It helps create an action plan to realise their goals and identifies the strategies to create the future that they want.

Love Your Career From the Start is the book I would have loved to have had when I was younger. I love the career I have now, but I think this book would have identified my ideal career path sooner, so I would have been doing what I love much earlier. A considerable strength of the book is that it breaks everything down into manageable steps, so things are achievable rather than being overwhelming. And another key element of the book is young people choosing work that sits well with their values. I would highly recommend this well-written and well-presented book for all young people who are considering what they want to do with their working lives.
