Keith is a little Chihuahua with a big attitude. He rules the house and his mother's heart. One day his world is tipped upside down when his Mama brings home a fluffy kitten that steals the attention. Determined to remain top dog, Keith causes mischief and makes Queenie the kitten's life miserable.

Author Elaine Bickell has written a hilarious take on sibling rivalry. Told in rhyme, the story flows nicely and it is super fun to read aloud. There's interesting language to entertain and educate, from adjectives to onomatopoeia.  Keith's antics had my little readers in hysterics.

Illustrator Minky Stapleton's artwork is absolutely adorable. Each character is packed with charm and personality. Keith's tenacity shines through while Queenie's fuzz is super cute. Stapleton offers readers little peeks into each animal's slightly more chaotic side too, with delightful little details.

This is a wonderful book for any little one adjusting to a new family member with messages about sibling rivalry and jealousy and about the need to adapt and grow.

Keith and the Kitten is the first in a planned series, and we can't wait to see what these reluctant siblings get up to next.
