For 2022, in its second year in New Zealand, Together We Read has selected the novel To the Sea by Nikki Crutchley (Harper Collins) – an atmospheric, suspenseful, dark and twisty thriller in the tradition of Daphne du Maurier, Paula Hawkins, Anna Downes and JP Pomare. Longlisted for the 2022 Ngaio Marsh Award, To the Sea is compulsively readable, keeping you guessing until late into the night, described by Rose Carlyle as, “An enthralling thriller, as beautiful and deadly as an ocean storm.”
The Libby App is an award-winning digital app from OverDrive who hold the industry’s largest digital literary catalogue. Available through most local libraries across New Zealand, Libby is a free service offering access to e-books, audio books and other digital content across numerous devices including iPhone®, iPad®, Android™ phones and tablets, Chromebook™, and Kobo® tablets and eReaders.
“After working as a librarian in New Zealand and abroad for over seven years I don’t think there could be a greater honour for me than to have ‘To the Sea’ chosen as the 2022 Together We Read book,” says Crutchley. ”The sheer power of books cannot be overstated in my opinion. I am thrilled to think people around New Zealand will be experiencing the twists and turns of ‘To the Sea’ together this October.”
Malcolm O’Brien, Regional Manager of OverDrive in Australia and New Zealand says “New Zealanders access so much of their entertainment via their phones and devices. We hope that Together We Read will encourage library members new and existing to realise the huge range of digital content that is available to them free of charge via the Libby App - unlike other platforms that require paid subscriptions. Via the Libby App, members have free access to a wide range of ebooks, audiobooks, digital magazines and more. And this year we are thrilled to introduce readers to Nikki Crutchley and her fantastic novel To the Sea.”
