Big Little Blue: Doubledippers by Raymond McGrath

Bigsies and Littles are back, showcasing the importance of being kind and helping others. In this third book of the series,  Big Blue and Little Blue learn that being helpful can be very rewarding - just not always in the ways they expect. When they meet Allie, a lonely albatross, their ability to help gets put to the test. Once again, author Raymond McGrath creates three simply illustrated, playful stories in this graphic novel-style volume perfect for younger readers.

Each story is connected by a wellbeing theme, and is designed to showcase the importance of being kind and helping others.

McGrath's illustrations are delightful yet again, with the layout, use of colour, space and texture used to great effect. It is perfectly pitched for younger readers beginning to dip their toes into the world of graphic novels. His characters are adorable too, full of expression and movement.

There's some great use of scale too, with Allie the albatross, and gorgeous double-page or full-page spreads showing the size of the environment or scale of the challenge the penguins face. The entire series is a calm and thoughtful exploration of wellbeing that offers children coping strategies for navigating friendships, understanding emotional responses, and the importance of mindfulness and being yourself.

Doubledippers is as perfect as its predecessors and a book that should be on every child's bookshelf.
