If your idea of a perfect meal involves a grazing board piled high with dips, snacks, bread and little treats to share, then A Little Something will feel like it was written just for you. Swedish chef Siri Barje celebrates the joy of casual eating with more than 70 recipes built around platters, picky bits, drinks and simple dishes that bring people together.

What makes this book so appealing is that it isn't just a collection of recipes. Siri encourages you to think differently about how food is served and enjoyed. Alongside her snacks and spreads, she shares styling and presentation ideas that make entertaining feel relaxed rather than intimidating. I loved her advice about collecting small bowls from flea markets and thrift shops, using vintage serving trays, and experimenting until you find a style that feels like your own.

The recipes themselves are varied including hot and cold dips, vegetable-focused bites, sweet treats and more. Siri's Swedish background adds some interesting influences, while many of the dishes feel fresh and original. Throughout the book she emphasises that recipes are meant to inspire rather than restrict, often suggesting substitutions so you can work with what you already have on hand.

One of my favourite chapters is devoted to bread. Siri writes, "Bread is one of the best vehicles for tasty things and the perfect snack is quite simply a piece of bread with something delicious on it." That philosophy runs through recipes ranging from garlic bread and toast to sliders and pizza-inspired creations.

Vegetables also take centre stage. Siri argues that vegetable snacks are not only delicious but practical, affordable and easy to prepare. It is refreshing to see produce celebrated in a way that feels generous and satisfying. For example, courgette rolls with cashew nuts and lemon, puff pastry buns with aubergine and cheese and (my favourite) bean-based dips.

Many recipes can be prepared ahead of time, making the book especially useful for entertaining. Siri clearly values spending time with guests over being stuck in the kitchen, and this philosophy extends to her desserts too. Instead of elaborate baking, she offers quick options such as tiramisu dip, pistachio dip and a chocolate mousse dip made with tofu, dark chocolate and olive oil.

The board ideas may be the highlight of the book for me. Inspired by the breakfast platters her mother made when she was a child, Siri shares everything from cheese boards and dip boards to nostalgic themed platters and clever ‘in the tin’ presentations. A Little Something is packed with ideas that will have you planning your next gathering or simply creating a special snack board for yourself. If you enjoy relaxed entertaining, sharing food with friends, and discovering new ways to present simple ingredients, you’ll love A Little Something.
