Untethered by Nathan James Thomas

New Zealand-born Nathan James Thomas has been living as a digital nomad for around seven years, and he has lived and worked in many countries, including China, Spain, Poland and Hungary.

Many people already experience the digital nomad life, and many more are interested in trying this type of lifestyle out, where your life and job become global, so you can travel the world and still work at the same time. Successful digital nomads travel to exotic lands, meet interesting people, and are free from the 9 to 5 grind while still earning a living.

But as this book explains, the realities are far from simple, so this book is an invaluable guide to the crucial things you need to know about making a digital nomad life work in the real world. The book covers everything from building your brand and business while on the road, or how to make this work when you are working for an employer while travelling for extended periods of time. The author covers things like handling money, exchange rate and taxes, and how to stay legal when living in grey areas. There is also advice on where to go based on what you want to do, and that it’s okay to slow down and not always be travelling.

As well as Nathan’s helpful advice, there are loads of people featured with their own stories of how they have been digital nomads, talking about both the good and the bad of their experiences.

I find myself doing more travel while working, so I have my own experience of being a digital nomad with various writing projects, so I found this book immensely interesting and practical.
