The Hatmakers by Tamzin Merchant

Cordelia comes from a long line of magical milliners who weave ‘alchemy and enchantment’ into every hat. In Cordelia’s world, crafting hats, cloaks, watches, boats and gloves from magical ingredients is an ancient skill an only a few special Maker families remain.

When Cordelia’s father and his ship are lost at sea during a mission to collect special ingredients, Cordelia is determined to find him. Cordelia’s Aunt and Uncle have no time to help her and an ancient rivalry between the Maker families is threatening to surface. Meanwhile, someone seems to be using their magic to start a war. It’s up to Cordelia to find out who and why…

Suitable for middle readers, The Hatmakers is action packed and full of fun. Author Tamzin Merchant grew up in Australia, South Africa and Dubai before moving to England. She has been an actor since the age of 17 and has also written and directed several award winning short films.
