Tails of Tangleby Gardens 2 by Sue Heazlewood, illustrated by Jane Smith

Tails of Tangleby Gardens 2 once again combines a whimsical story with recipes suitable for children to make.

The story begins with preparations for Christmas underway when two ducks turn up on the deck after their car has broken down. Of course, the two rabbits from the first tale, Montgomery and Marmalade, invite them in, where they meet all the crew at Tangleby Gardens – cats, mice, hedgehogs, frogs and birds. And so the adventure begins…

Thankfully everyone enjoys eating wonderful food, so this is where the recipes come in, mixed throughout the ten chapters. The recipes are graded by 1 tomato (very easy) 2 tomatoes (easy) or 3 tomatoes (some skill required), which is very helpful for young cooks.

The recipes are all food that will be a hit with the entire family. Who could resist Banana & Double Chocolate Muffins, Gingerbread Christmas Trees or Christmas Rocky Road? Or what about Roast Chicken Pieces with Potatoes and Carrots, Sticky Sausages or a Macaroni & Vegetable Frittata Bake?

Tangleby Garden is a real garden and the story is based on actual parts of the garden, which is a lovely touch. The illustrations are so sweet and appealing for the story part of the book, and the book cleverly combines photography of the food with the illustrated characters.

Tails of Tangleby Gardens 2 is a delightful and unique book that encourages a love of storytelling and cooking, everything done so it has a timeless quality with the story, illustrations and recipes. This is a book that will be passed down the generations.
