Going on a Kiwi Holiday by Suzy Cato and Arthur Baysting

We're going on a Kiwi holiday - Grab the beach towels off the line, use the toilet one more time ... and don’t leave Grandma behind!

Celebrate a great Kiwi summer road trip with much-loved children's entertainer Suzy Cato. This simple, catchy tune is easy to learn and sing along to.

I suggest, though, listening to the song first. We dove straight into the book and read it like a picture book. It's not an easy one to read straight off the bat. The rhythm and beat feels a bit off. However, once you download or stream the song, it makes a lot more sense.

Bright, retro illustrations by Raymond McGrath capture the excitement, and chaos, that comes with packing up the family for a summer beach holiday.

It is distinctly New Zealand, with the bright blooms of pōhutukawa and pīwakawaka flitting across every page. McGrath, who has written and illustrated several books himself including That’s What Dragons Do, really knows how to capture emotion and personality in his artwork.

Going on a Kiwi Holiday is a joyful and upbeat celebration of summer, the great Kiwi roadie and family holidays.
