Lynley Dodd’s Hairy Maclary is adored by children around the world, and if your child is one of those who love Hairy Maclary and his friends, and you are teaching them their letters and numbers, then these gorgeous books are worth looking at.
They are hardback (but that puffy type) books that are small enough for little hands to be able to hold easily. Each page has a letter or number (the numbers are double page spreads, the letters are single page spreads) with a related image that includes a character from the Hairy Maclary books that relates to the letter or number.
The back of the book includes a fold-out chart with the alphabet for the ABC book, and numbers 1 to 10 for the 123 book. My daughter particularly enjoyed the ABC book, as she is currently learning her alphabet. We played a game where I opened the book to a random page, and she had to tell me what letter was on it. The book isn’t really a read through book because there are no words (just letters or numbers), but it makes a fantastic alternative to flash cards, and the characters help hold children’s attention for longer.
Ideal for the young number and/or alphabet learner, Hairy Maclary & Friends ABC, and Hairy Maclary & Friends 123 are an adorable set for Hairy Maclary fans.
